Author Visit : Patricia M. McClure - Losing a Hero to Alzheimer's

It took author Patricia M. McClure 10 years after watching her mother succumb to Alzheimer’s disease before she finally felt ready to share her mother’s story. In her new book, “Losing a Hero to Alzheimer's”, McClure share’s her experience as her mother’s caregiver while helping readers learn how to identify the stages of Alzheimer’s. “My mom was my role model and hero,” McClure says. “I watched my hero fall prey to the grueling stages of Alzheimer’s. This book will allow the reader to garner some practical standpoints from a family member’s perspective.” From a caregiver’s perspective, McClure acquaints readers with the warning signs and characteristics associated with each stage of Alzheimer’s. She explains the effect the disease can have on the individual, the caregiver and relationships within the family system. McClure’s story shows how the family system is impacted when a loved one is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. From personal experience, she says family members must come together selflessly, patiently and lovingly to care for the needs of the individual, regardless of the family dynamic or any societal issues that may challenge their resolve.
